SEOUL, South Korea - An American student stopped in North Korea confessed to have stolen American Methodist from the equipment of propaganda at the request of a Church and with encouragement of a secret university society, brought back on Monday the North Korean official press.
The official KCNA agency maintained that Otto Frederick Warmbier, stopped at the beginning of January while he is going to leave the country, had granted an "interview" on Monday to the journalists North Korean and foreign to Pyongyang.
In a statement named by KCNA, the 21-year-old student of the University of Virginia told he had taken a poster sporting a political slogan in a zone reserved for the personnel of the hotel of Pyongyang where he was accommodated as part of an organised trip.
In a video broadcast by the American chain CNN, the student cries, explains that he made «the worst error of (his) life» and asks to be liberated.
He is seen dressed in a costume and in a tie, lowered head, entering a room flanked by two North Korean security guards.
According to KCNA, the young man explained to have been made responsible for taking of the equipment of propaganda by a faithful of the Church Methodist unified by the friendship which wanted " a trophy ".
It was about the mother of a friend of Warmbier who had promised him a car of occasion worth 10 000 dollars (9000 euro) in case of success of his mission and 200 000 dollars to his family in case of arrest, adds KCNA.
«As my family has big financial problems, I began envisaging it as a golden opportunity to make money», he explains, city by the agency. «The purpose of my mission was to undermine motivations and working ethics of the Korean people. It was an extremely stupid purpose.»
The foreign nationals stopped in North Korea are often asked to pass public admissions according to a scenario widely written beforehand, first stage of process with the aim of their possible liberalisation.
The slogans which extol the successes of North Korea and its leaders, or encourage the inhabitants to work more hard and to prove to be loyal are omnipresent.
By announcing its arrest, North Korea had accused the student of leading «hostile activities» with the blessing of the American government.

According to KCNA, Warmbier also asserts having been encouraged by a secret society of the University of Virginia, called «Z society», which had promised him to accept it in its breast in case of success.
According to the magazine of the University, the «Z society» is known for its philanthropic activities and to organise honorary dinners.
KCNA does not specify the expenses which weigh against the young American or if it will be translated in front of justice.
